Our journey to the Arctic Circle

It is fair to say we have been off the radar for the last week as we enjoyed life up in the Arctic Circle – in Lapland, Northern Finland. Why, I hear you ask?  Well, as many of you know, we chose to get married in a small ceremony in Sweden, on 16th February 2013 & then followed this up with a rather wonderful wedding reception in the UK in April.  We didn’t want to go on our honeymoon before the end of all of these celebrations so we decided, after lots of deliberation, that our honeymoon would happen (rather belatedly!) for our 1st anniversary.Anita & Ben Husky SleddingAnita & Ben SnowmobilingAnita Reindeer SafariAnita Glass IglooNorthern Lights

And it did…

We stayed in a rather quaint log cabin complete with its own log fire.

And anyone who knows us will know how much we enjoy trying new things, so we had a bash at…

…Husky sledding (you can read more about this here)…

…Snowmobiling…

…Reindeer Safari-ing (at much slower pace than the previous two excursions)…

…Oh, & for our final night, contrary to what they forecast said & made especially epic by the fact that we were staying in a glass igloo…

…the Northern Lights appeared for us…

So we would now, one year on, like to thank you everyone who came to & was a part of our wedding, & to everyone who contributed towards the most fantastic – words cannot describe – wedding present we could ever have hoped for…the chance to make memories from our adventures together. We had a blast!

The wonders (& challenges) of working for yourself

Working freelance is wonderful – having only recently discovered it, I cannot recommend it highly enough. And as with everything, there is a downside which I find difficult:

I am finding that often whole days can go by and you don’t realise how much you have done – to the point that you don’t think you have done anything at all – especially when some work is aiming towards longer term goals.

Being someone who likes to find solutions to any given problem, this is what I did: I have decided to note down my successes at the end of a project / task in order to be able to look back and see what I have achieved. And I will share with you some some of my highlights from this past week:

(NB: This list is not exhaustive, these are just a few of my achievements this week!)

Before you say it, yes, some of those tasks do not really count as ‘work’ – I know! They are more… Social? Fun? Exciting? How life should be?

Well…yes. I love that our lifestyle is allowing for us to control our own work-life balance. It has taken us a while to learn how we can make this possible but I like what we have found… & we will definitely continue to work in this way so that the positive management of our work-life balance may continue…

Where You Are

In and amongst our move to snowy Sweden, we’ve been working on a few new tunes! Here’s an exclusive preview video of one of them, entitled ‘Where You Are’.

The new songs have a slightly more organic feel to them…

Out of my comfort zone

If you know me well – I like to have a plan. I do not wing it. At first, when we planned to move, people would say Do you have a job to go to? or What are you going to do? In fact, I reckon many people still don’t understand what it is that we are doing. So for all of you…here goes…

We want to create time in our lives. We like working together. We are called to write music. We hope to build more of a free range existence. We are off to have adventures.

So we are doing a range of different free range projects to support this including music, web design (not me), various online projects & whatever else comes our way.

This is where we are called to be right now & not knowing exactly what the future holds is not as scary as I always thought it would be. In fact, I feel as though I have been set free…

First post from Sweden

We have been here in Stockholm for just over two weeks now.  The snow arrived here with me (they had been having an unusually warm winter before then).  I don’t think I quite prepared myself for how big the move was…selling our flat in London, moving to a different country, not having ‘a job’ to go to…it’s all pretty big stuff.  But I’m excited! I’m excited about this new adventure.
