Temples, temples and more temples…

Our final trip of 2019 took us to Cambodia. It was actually the holiday that we were supposed to take in August but because of travel disruption, we had to reschedule it to October.

We had booked a guide and driver for 4 of our days there so we could really get out and about as easily as possible and it was definitely worth it.

Most people head to Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat, which was incredible, but my favourite temple had to be Beng Mealea – situated some 60km outside of Siem Reap. It is a temple that hasn’t been restored at all. Instead, nature has taken over and the result is a Jumanji-like setting of overgrown ruins…

I can’t remember exactly how many temples we encountered, each one unique and captivating…

Of course, Ta Prohm (aka the Tomb Raider temple – where some of the movie was shot) was fun to see but much more crowded than most of the others…

and Angkor Wat at sunrise was breathtaking…

along with the incredible scenery…

Yes… Cambodia, you were special. Hope to see you again!
